WHAT'S A MAGNET RESOURCE TEACHER?
A magnet resource teacher is a skilled teacher who specializes in direct support of classroom teachers to develop strong instruction around our school's unique theme. We connect resources to areas of need, and foster the positive growth and development of our teachers, students, and school.
About Mrs. Costa
Hi Everyone! My name is Cortney Costa and I just love being the Magnet Resource Teacher (MRT) here at Quinnipiac! Before I was a teacher, I went to Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York where I earned my bachelors degree in elementary education. I later returned to Southern Connecticut State University to earn my masters in TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages). I used my TESOL knowledge as I worked at Columbus Family Academy, a Dual Language school here in New Haven. There, I taught fourth and sixth grade, where I taught all subjects. I found a love for math, so went back to earn a certification which focuses in math education! I used that certification to teach seventh and eighth graders things like pre-algebra and algebra!
I am so glad to have the opportunity to be here at Quinnipiac Real World Math STEM School as we develop and implement a math and STEM themed curriculum! I love that our students now have the opportunity to take several field trips and meet visitors that will help science, math and technology come alive! We continue to develop and integrate our curriculum so that our students can see the connections between all different subject areas. We want our students to find and solve problems with strategies they’ve learned in all of what they do here at the “Q”! Our technology and supplemental materials are having an impressive impact on our curriculum and student learning! I look forward to working with all the teachers and students as we continue to inspire students to have a love of learning!
